Hi @Gordie419,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 Plus is suddenly taking 2-3 minutes to start printing, here are some steps you can try to troubleshoot and resolve the issue.

Check Printer Settings:

  • Ensure that the printer settings haven’t changed. Sometimes, a high-quality print setting can slow down printing.

Update Printer Firmware:

  • Go to the HP Support website and check if there’s a firmware update available for your printer. Updating the firmware can resolve performance issues.

Check for Network Issues:

  • If the printer is networked, ensure that there’s no network congestion or issues with your router. Try printing a test page to see if the delay persists.

Clean Print Heads:

  • Run a print head cleaning cycle from the printer’s control panel. Sometimes, clogged print heads can cause delays.

Check Ink Levels:

  • Ensure that your ink cartridges are not running low or empty, as low ink can affect printing speed.

Restart Devices:

  • Restart the printer, your computer, and your router. This can sometimes resolve connectivity and performance issues.

Check for Paper Jams:

  • Inspect the printer for any paper jams or obstructions that might be causing delays.

Printer Queue:

  • Make sure there aren’t any stuck print jobs in the print queue. Clear the print queue if necessary.

Reset Printer:

  • Perform a factory reset on the printer. Consult the user manual for instructions on how to do this.

Software or Driver Update:

  • Ensure that you have the latest printer drivers installed on your computer. Visit the HP website to download and install any updates.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

I have had the same problem and tried to fix it for the past year, using the convoluted directions above.

It's all garbage. I don't know what it is, and no repair shop has figured it out either.

The easiest solution is to get another brand. We are getting rid of our stable and replacing with either Brother or Canon.

Will have been exclusively HP for 25 years...not anymore.

Printers are cheap. Get one that works.
