Hi @aprilrose11, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like your HP printer is showing a "Printing Preparation" message with a timer when you turn it on. This could indicate one of the following issues:

Possible Causes:

  1. Firmware Update in Progress – If your printer recently received an update, it may be preparing for installation.
  2. Initialization Process – Some HP printers take time to initialize, check ink levels, or clean printheads before they become fully functional.
  3. Pending Print Jobs – A stuck or pending print job in the queue may cause this behavior.
  4. Cartridge or Paper Issue – If there's an issue with ink cartridges or paper feed, the printer might delay startup.
  5. Network Connection Delay – If your printer is trying to connect to a Wi-Fi network or HP Web Services, it might take longer to be ready.

Suggested Solutions:

Wait for Completion – If the message has a timer, let it finish and see if the printer resumes normal operation.
Restart the Printer – Turn off the printer, unplug it for a minute, then turn it back on.
Check for Paper Jams – Open the printer and check for any stuck paper.
Reinstall Cartridges – Remove and reseat the ink cartridges properly.
Check Print Queue – On your PC, go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers > Your Printer and clear any stuck print jobs.
Update Firmware – If possible, check HP Smart or HP Support Assistant for firmware updates.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
