Hi Guys,
Just bought a new M281fdw printer to replace my old 2605dn and have installed the drivers on two Win 10 64-bit machines and one win 7 32-bit machine. Driver works fine: all can print and all can scan very nicely.
However, on one of the Win 10, a notification is shown in the Win 10 message area, every time I turn on the Pc. It is a picture of the printer with a link beneath saying Launch App. When trying the link, a screen telling me to go to Win store and get the app, to be able to keep an eye on various status info on the printer.
I do not want to download and install the app on my machines, and want to get rid of the notification.
Could anyone help: What can I do to stop HP from notifying me about this app ?

You may attempt the following steps:
- Under Settings in the Message Center in the HP Printer Utility.
- Turn off Display HP Alerts.
If the issue persists then please review the following steps and check if that helps: - Open the Devices and Printers folder, right-click the HP printer, and then select Properties.
- Click the Device Settings tab.
- In the Installable Options section, set Printer Status Notification to either Enable or Disable.
- Click OK.

The following conditions describe the possible situations that can enable or disable the Printer Status Notification setting in the driver's Device Settings properties.

Welcome to the HP Support Community!
- Have you tried removing it from the Windows Startup?
- Are you sure it is related to the printer?
Meanwhile, I recommend you root uninstall the printer and then reinstall it and check if it helps.
Here is how it is done.
1.) In Windows, search for and open Programs and features
2.) Select your HP Printer
3.) Select Uninstall
4.) In Windows, search for and open Devices and printers
5.) In the Devices and Printers windows look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose 'Delete' or 'Remove Device'
6.) Open up the run command with the "Windows key + R" key combo.
7.) Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between “printui.exe” and “/s”)
8.) Click on the "Drivers" tab
9.) Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click Remove at the bottom
10.) Select Ok
11.) Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows
12.) Close Devices and Printers
13.) Restart the PC
14.) Download and install the printer software from the below link.
Let me know how it goes and you have a great day!

Hi and Thanks for your reply.
Replying to your 2 questions at the top of your post:
First question: There is nothing in Start (Joblist/Start and Settings/App and Functions/Start) relating to HP. In Settings/App and Functions, there are the ones shown below, but I'm unsure if it is any of those. (Note the top one show the Danish word for HELP in case you wonder) :
Second question: No I'm not sure it is directly related to the printer, but rather is some extra facility installed as part of the full installation. The App the message recommends to install, it the one to use to check the status of the printer, level of toner and so on. I know it very well and could install it, but with the printers own homepage, I have all the info necessary there and see no need to install the app. And therefore would like to have the notification stopped.
The printer and scanner functions (which is what I use) are working perfectly from this computer, so don't want to uninstall if not really necessary, but will follow your guides if you, after reading this, still recommend it.
Thanks in advance,
Soren

Hi again The_Fossette,
Thank you very much for your help. I have found a solution, and though it is not 100% the solution I was looking for, it's acceptable for the time being.
It was not directly one of your proposals, but it came from your writing. Reading through your post, I realized I have made a mistake in naming the issues, translating them from my native language to English. Talking about messages in Windows Message area, where in fact I should have called them Notifications in Windows Action Center....
Once I realized the mistake, I quickly identified the Notifications & Actions sections in Settings, and have switched off notifications about printing, which has done the trick.
I still wonder why I was getting the notifications from the printer (the driver on my computer I suppose), and also wonder why I do not have any of the options of disabling them, you mention and show on the screen copy. The Microsoft article https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4014933/windows-10-get-notifications-you-w, explains how it is possible to decide the notification level for each app, by selecting the app on the settings screen, but on my computer, win10-1903, there are only 5 different options, and they are all general.
Anyway I'm using Cliqz as browser, and OOSU10 to shut down all open doors in Win 10, so it might be one of the reasons I do not have a list of apps, feeding the notification area.
But as I said, It's fine for now. And as I found a solution based on your help and support, I have marked your latest post as a solution..
Once again thanks for your help and support,
Regards
Soren
