removing dynamic security

I recommend you follow the steps in the below article and update the printer firmware and check if it helps.

I did not see this model hp 6958 listed on the links from your article but tried to install sams club members mark cartridges 902XL and it would not work - I believe due to the dynamic security.  Can you confirm what might need to be done?  Thx.

Hi,

It is listed as the series name in the article - Officejet 6950.

this update disables dynamic security for printers manufactured before December 1, 2016. For printers manufactured on December 1, 2016 or later, dynamic security remains functional with this update.
