In setting up my new Envy Inspire 7900 printer to print from my iPad and iPhone, when I get to the Wi-Fi set up it asks me for a password. I have no idea what password. Tried it all

I think you're trying to connect the printer directly to the computer using Wi-fi direct.  HP Smart on your computer is asking for the Wi-Fi PIN.

 

That is item # 3

I think you can also get it by doing a status report.
