Hi @MHausmanninger,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be glad to help you!

I can understand how frustrating it must be to have your new printer stuck in a firmware update loop. Let's try a few steps to help restore it and get it working properly.

  • Did the printer show any error codes or messages during the update process?
  • Are you able to access the printer's Settings or Menu options at all, or does it immediately start looking for updates?
  • Do you have access to a USB cable in case we need to connect the printer to a computer for troubleshooting?

1. Power Reset the Printer

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Wait for at least 60 seconds, then plug it back in and turn it on.
  • Check if the printer can start up normally without searching for updates.

2. Restart the Update Process in Offline Mode

  • Disconnect the printer from Wi-Fi by pressing Cancel as soon as the update attempt begins, if possible.
  • If successful, try reconnecting to Wi-Fi and restarting the firmware update from Settings > Printer Maintenance > Update the Printer.

3. Attempt a Semi-Full Reset

  • If the printer is still unresponsive, try a Semi-Full Reset:
    • Turn off the printer.
    • Press and hold both the Power button and the Help button (or back button on some models) together for 10-15 seconds until the printer powers on.
    • This should reset settings without clearing important data. Check if the printer stops attempting updates.

4. Update Firmware via USB Flash Drive (if supported)

  • Download the latest firmware for your printer from HP’s support site.
  • Copy the firmware file to a blank USB drive formatted to FAT32.
  • Insert the USB into the printer's port (if available) and follow any prompts to update via USB.

5. Connect to HP Smart or HP Printer Assistant on a Computer

  • Connect the printer to a computer with a USB cable.
  • Open HP Smart or HP Printer Assistant, which may prompt you to reinitialize or update the firmware. If available, choose the Firmware Update option and follow the prompts.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance
