Please provide help with drivers {or a workaround} because I'm unable to find drivers for Deskjet 4500 for my Mac OS 13.6
I was able to see the printer and install it on my Mac OS 12.7.5 seamlessly

Hi @RedMan05,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
The HP DeskJet 4500 series is an older model, and finding specific drivers for newer versions of macOS can be challenging. Since you were able to use the printer with macOS 12.7.5 but are having issues with macOS 13.6, here are some steps and workarounds to help you get it working:
1. Use Built-In macOS Drivers
Sometimes macOS includes generic drivers that can work with older printers:
- Add Printer with Generic Driver:
- Go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners.
- Click the + button to add a new printer.
- Select your HP DeskJet 4500 from the list.
- In the "Use" dropdown menu, choose Select Software, then select HP DeskJet 4500 or a similar generic driver if available.
2. HP Smart App:
- Install the HP Smart app from the Mac App Store.
- The HP Smart app can often automatically detect and install the necessary drivers for various HP printers.
3. HP Printer Drivers
- Visit the HP Support website and search for your DeskJet 4500 model.
- Check if there are any updated drivers or software available for macOS 13.6.
- Sometimes the HP Easy Start installer can automatically detect and install the correct drivers. You can download HP Easy Start from the HP website.
4. Use AirPrint
If your printer supports AirPrint, you can use it as a workaround:
- Check AirPrint Support:
- Go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners.
- Add a new printer and see if the DeskJet 4500 appears as an AirPrint-enabled device.
- Select the printer and use it as you would any other AirPrint-enabled device.
5. Reset Printing System
Sometimes resetting the printing system can resolve driver issues:
- Reset Printing System:
- Go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners.
- Right-click (or Control-click) on the list of printers and select Reset Printing System.
- Confirm the reset and re-add your printer.
6. Manual Driver Installation
- If you have access to older macOS versions or drivers, you might be able to use them with some modifications. However, this approach can be tricky and is not always recommended.
- Some users have had success running older drivers in compatibility mode, though this is more complex and might require additional tools or adjustments.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
