Admin Password Reset for MFP M577

HP Color LaserJet MFP M577

Previous person set the admin password on our office printer and is no longer with the company.  We need to reset the Admin password on our M577.  We have already tried doing a Factory Reset and also loading the latest firmware (FutureSmart 4.7.0.1).  Please provide the procedure to accomplish the admin password reset.

Thanks.

Solved!

Admin Password Reset for MFP M577

Solved the problem myself, patching together google results for other HP printers.  Here are the steps I took, if it helps anyone else.

Final solution was to reformat the disk and reload a firmware.  Before you start this process, be sure to download a firmware file appropriate for your printer and save it to the root folder of a FAT32 USB thumbdrive.  You may also want to print a configuration page to be able to reset the network settings, etc. The steps I took:

  1. Power off the printer
  2. Power on the printer, and when the HP Logo and 1/8 appear on the display, touch the HP Logo to bring up the Preboot menu.
  3. Select Administrator.
  4. Select Format Disk. (Yes, I first tried Clear Password and it did not work). This is quick.
  5. Select Download.
  6. Insert USB thunbdrive with firmware on it and select USB Thumbdrive from the menu.  Select the file.
  7. Once copied, return to main menu, remove USB thumbdrive and select Continue.

The boot proces will continue with a restart at step 6/8.  Then you will see it Upgrading Firmware.  Finally, it will come back to the setup screen to select language, location, time, etc.  Make sure to reset the network settings, if necessary, or otherwise determine the IP address of your printer.

Back on your computer, open a web browser and point it at the IP address.  Once the page loads, go to the Security tab, and set the local adminstrator password.  Write down or otherwise store the password in a secure manner.
