My printer status is "unknown" constantly now. This happened a week ago when new firmware was downloaded. I cannot scan, I cannot print and I cannot use "HP Smart" for anything either. My printer is connected via wifi only. My printer has been working absolutely fine ever since I bought it 6 months ago, but now it's status is "unknown" and it's completely random as well.

The printer is enrolled in instant ink as well. I'm about to demand a refund at this point.

What can I do?

Hi @BDK81

Welcome to the HP Support Community. I'd be happy to assist you.

Restart the wireless router, the printer, and the PC

Make sure the printer is connected to the Internet.

Login to your Instant Ink account page and Refresh your account page

Refresh your printer on your account page.

Click the blue refresh button , and then click the web browser reload button to reload the web page. Do this up to five times, until the green check  appears.

If the issue persists, restart web services on the printer

Refer to step 4 in this document. Try printing.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Thanks, restarting printer and let it sit for a good hour worked. Apparently it was still working on getting updated when I needed to scan some documents; Hence why it's status was unknown randomly.

All is good now.

Great support 🙂
