Hi, this morning I noticed the printer had not turned off, went to check the Auto On/Off option & it was not listed. Coincidentally, another user on my network who uses the same printer downloaded some HP sw (not sure what) when prompted in order for her to access my printer. I can always manually turn off the printer but am curious as to what may have happened. Any help is appreciated, thanks, Nick.

Thanks for your help MKazi. Although it still doesn't shut down after 2 hours, I'm quite OK w/ doing it manually, Nick.

Welcome to HP Support Forums. 🙂 I came across your post and would like to help.
I understand that you have an HP ENVY 5660 e-All-in-One Printer and it does not switch to auto off. I read that the auto on/off option is absent. You suspect that an HP software update may have caused this. Not worry, I'll do my best to help you.
To provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:
- If possible could you check with the other user if the update was something related to the printer or the printer firmware? Di that user read what it was?
- Did you check for the auto on/off feature on the printer front panel or through the software (Embedded Web Server page) of the printer?
Meanwhile, I did some research on this case and request ou to perform the following steps:
- Disconnect the power cable from the printer while the printer is still ON.
- Disconnect any other cables if connected the printer.
- Press and hold the printer’s power button for 15 seconds.
- The printer should be directly connected to the wall outlet and not to a surge protector. Reconnect the power cable to print and the printer should power ON by itself. If the printer doesn’t power ON then please manually power it ON.

I hope this helps. Please feel free to let me know the results. Good luck! 🙂

Thanks for getting back to me, I did try your suggestion but no change. The update was related to the printer but I don't know what it was. And I did check using the display. I did notice, though, that via the Embedded Web Server it says: "This feature is automatically diasabled when the printer is connected to a . . . network . . . I coincidentally connected to a new network recently so perhaps that's it? Thanks, Nick.

You are welcome Nick. 🙂
You may perform a printer firmware update and that should fix minor issues.
However, if the issue still persists then I suggest you to reset the printer to its original settings. But the reset will restore all printer settings to default. You will have to reconnect the printer to the network, etc.
I have sent you a private message with the steps to reset the printer.
I sincerely hope this fixes the issue. All the best! 🙂

Thanks for your reply MKazi. Coincident w/ clicking on the link in your email I got the "Blue Screem of Death" & a crash dump so deleted your email. I'm sure the two were not connected but could you send the email again? I assume the instructions are in the email & I don't need to click on the link. Thanks & sorry for the complexity, Nick.
