I would like to print from my Google Pixel 3 phone which is operating Android 10.  I have downloaded the HP Print Services Plugin and HP Smart apps onto my phone.

My problem is that I cannot seem to be able to connect the printer itself to the wifi.  All that happens is that I go round in circles, pressing the WPS button on my router to no avail.

Is there no easy way to connect the printer to my wifi as with any other device?  Why is it seeminly so impossible?  A couple of years ago I tried to connect my Chromebook to the printer but that was equally unsuccessful and for most of its life my HP printer has been a rather large and useless brick.

Any help would be much appreciated.  Thank you.

Hi @ChrisNeill1

Welcome to the HP Support Community. I'd be happy to assist you with the connectivity issue.

To better assist you - Are you using  a dual  band router?

While you respond to that, try these steps to restore the network settings to defaults -

1. Press the Wireless button to access the Wireless Settings menu.
2. Select Restore to Default.
3. Confirm selection to restore defaults

Try connecting using the WPS push button, if the issue still persists, try these steps -

1. Connect the printer using the Wireless Direct. Please refer to page#35 from the User Manual for steps.

2. Open the browser and in the address or the URL bar type this - 192.168.223.1 to launch the EWS or the printer's page.

3. Go to the network tab > Wireless (802.11) and click on the Wireless Setup Wizard.

Once the printer is connected, the Wi-Fi LED on the printer will become solid.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Hello.  Firstly, I am so sorry I've taken such an age to reply.

I have restored to defaults before without any success.

I think we are using a dual band router.

I have tried the wireless direct method and although my devices sees the Wireless Direct name on my wifi list I still can't make printing work.

Thanks

Hi @ChrisNeill1

Thanks for replying. This printer only support connecting to 2.4 GHz. Please ensure you are connecting your printer and the devices that you are trying to print from, to the 2.4 GHz channel.

Let me know.

After years of it not working my partner managed to make it work this afternoon.  Nothing to do with the ghz channel but instead applying a password to the wifi direct rather than doing it unsecured.  One of these days though making printers work won't be the work of scientists.  Just consumers. Thanks for getting back to me again.

@ChrisNeill1 Thanks for the update, well these things take a lot of research and it wouldn't be called research if we knew what we were doing, as they say, so I'm glad you've worked with us and with your partner until it was fixed, I'm happy for you! if you need anything else, feel free to get back to us if you need anything else, most issues don't require research, we have a definite fix! 😉

Take care and have an awesome day, ahead.
