Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have a Windows 10 Pro 10.0.18363 laptop printing to a HP office Jet 4635.  Many times I will see a delay of up to 1/2 hour before a job starts to print. Memory, diskspace and virtual memory all seem normal.  I have run the Print Doctor program and no issues are reported.  All drivers seem to be up to date.

Any other suggestions that can be tried to fix this problem?

I found that the laptop was connecting to a wireless extender for the local network.  I changed this to the local router wireless and jobs were able to print much faster.  I suspect a large amount of wireless interference was causing the problem.

Seems to be fixed now.

Hi @DaveWin-CT

Welcome to the HP Support Community. I'd be happy to assist you with the printing issue.

Please try these steps -

Step 1 Printer Reset -

1) Take out the cartridges.
2) Unplug the power cord from the printer & wall.
3) Wait for 30 seconds.
4) Plug the power cord back into the printer and wall, ensure the printer is plugged into the wall & not to a surge protector.
5) Insert the cartridges back into the printer.

Step 2 Print with both cartridges -

Make sure all cartridges are properly installed. Replace empty cartridges as necessary, and then try to print.

Step 3 Check the printer preferences -

Selecting certain paper types or printing in Best quality can slow print speeds. Print with plain paper in Normal or Draft quality for faster print speeds.

1. Search Windows for printers, and then click Printers & scanners in the list of results.

2. Click your printer, and then click Manage.

3. Click Printing Preferences.

4. Click the Paper or Paper/Quality tab.

5. In the Type or Paper Type field, make sure Plain Paper is selected.

6. Adjust the print quality.

  • HP Inkjet and LaserJet printers:

In the Print Quality field, make sure Draft or Normal is selected.

  • HP Laser printers:

Click the Graphics tab, and then click Standard in the Quality field.

7. Click OK or Apply to confirm the changes.

If the issue still persists, try re-installing the printer driver -

1. In the search box, type and open "Uninstall a Program".

2. Look for HP Printer software.

3. Right-click to uninstall.

4. In the search box, type and open “Devices and printers”.

5. In the Devices and Printers, look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose “Delete” or “Remove Device”.

6. Open the run command with the "Windows key + R" key combo.

7. Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between “printui.exe” and “/s”).

8. Click on the "Drivers" tab.

9. Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click “Remove” at the bottom.

10. Select Ok.

11. Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows.

12. Close Devices and Printers Once the software and drivers are removed.

13. Restart the computer.

14. Download and install the software and drivers from here for Windows 10 (64-bit).

15. Click on the downloaded file and follow the on-screen instructions.

Also, try updating the printer's firmware - HP Printers - Updating or Upgrading Printer Firmware

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.
