Help!

I'm setting up a brand-new HP Envy laptop (Windows 10 professional 64-bit). My trusty HP Deskjet 6988 printer is connected to the local network via ethernet, as is the laptop, and the network is behind a firewall. I can "see" the printer in Windows Explorer, as a device on the network, and I can even open the page which the printer serves up for checking status and ink levels. However, when I attempt to install the printer, (a) the HP Customer Support - Software and Driver Downloads has nothing to download, but instead directs me to Install Your Printer Driver Using the Windows Built-in Solution, (b) following the Windows Install Printer wizard, I have to select "My Printer is an Older Model" in order to see it, (c) even after I run Windows Update to get the latest list of printers, the Deskjet 6988 isn't listed anywhere.

Is there a generic driver available that will work for the Deskjet 6988 - or better yet, could there magically be a Deskjet 6988 driver for Win 10 64-bit that I just haven't found?

Help please!

Thanks anyway. I gave up and bought a new printer. HP doesn't even provide the cartridges for the Deskjet 6980 series anymore, so clearly they want me to throw it away.

@ShoeBar

Looks like printer is too old, no HP drivers for Windows 10 as shown

   https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/HP-Deskjet-6900-Printer-series/468002/model/3422864

which says

Installing Your Printer Driver Using the Windows Built-in Solution

Install the HP Printer Driver and Software provided within your operating system.

Therefore you have to use generic drivers from Windows and as a generic driver for many different printers therefore you can't see entry HP Deskjet 6988.

Hope this makes sense.

Regards.
