Hello, @aagarre - Greetings!

Allow me to welcome to HP Support Forums! It is a great platform to get help from the community, get suggestions and find what has worked for others!

I understand that you are having trouble while installing the printer software. Let’s try a clean install to try and fix this issue. Here are the steps:

  • First, unplug the USB cable from the printer if present.
  • Go to Control Panel – Programs and feature – Select all the HP Envy printer entries and uninstall them.
  • Now go to Control Panel – Devices and Printer – Select all the printer entries and remove the device.
  • Restart your computer.
  • Click the bottom-left Start button on the desktop, type device manager in the search box and tap Device Manager on the menu.
  • Once in device manager, click on the view tab in the top & choose “Show hidden devices”.
  • Then from the device manager list, check the entries under “Printer”  – If there are any entries, please right click and choose “uninstall” – In the confirm device un-install pop-up, make sure you select the box which says “Delete the driver software for this device".
  • Also, check the entries under "printer queue" and "imaging devices" and repeat the same exercise. Delete any printer entry or any entry which says “Unknown device”.
  • Once done, close device-manger. Then press the "windows key" + "r" to get the "Run" window open - Type "printui.exe /s" (there is a space between .exe & /) and press enter.
  • Under print server properties, go to drivers - remove any entry there as well.
  • Again, go to Run window, type – “c:/programdata” – Go to Hewlett Packard folder, remove any printer related folders & files.
  • Open run again, type “%temp%” and press enter to get the temporary files. Delete all the files here. Skip the items which cannot be deleted.
  • Now restart your computer again.
  • Open the Run window again, type “services.msc” and press ok to get services window.
  • Scroll down to “Remote Procedure Call (RPC)” – right-click and go to properties. Make sure the service is started and startup type is “Automatic”.
  • Now scroll up and go to “Function Discovery Provider Host” – right-click and select properties – Change the startup type to “manual” and start the service.
  • Repeat the same exercise on “Function Discovery Resource Publication” as well.
  • Click on http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software13/printers/EN7640/EN7640__Basicx64_1107.exe and install the software.
  • Connect the USB cable only when prompted.

Hello, @aagarre

Try to assign a static IP to the printer and also disable the IPv6. Follow the steps below:

•    Obtain the IP address of the printer – You can touch the “wireless” icon on the printer control panel to get the IP address.
•    Type the IP address on your web browser to obtain the printer EWS page on your computer.
•    Go to "Network" tab - General - Select "Network protocols" - Select "Enable IPv4 only" (or similar) - Apply the settings.
•    Go to the “Network” tab – Click on “Wireless (802.11) – Then click on “Network address (IPv4)
•    Click on the radio button which says “Manual IP” and then click “Suggest a manual IP address” to give a manual IP address to your printer.
•    Click on radio button which says “Manual DNS Server” and under manual preferred type 8.8.8.8 and under manual alternate type 8.8.4.4 (This is Google DNS server address)

Now, try to uninstall and reinstall the drivers and check.

Let me know if that helps!

Cheers 🙂

Still receiving the same message!!

If I click the wireless icon on the task bar to connect directly to the printer...the printer shows its status as

No internet, Secured.  It does not ask for a password.  The printer shows to be connected to the internet.

Hello, @aagarre

Do not connect the laptop to the printer network (the name would be preceded with DIRECT). This is an ad-hoc connection between your printer and the PC, similar to a Bluetooth connection. You will loose the internet connectivity on your PC if you connect the notebook to this network.

Hence, make sure you are connecting the printer to the home network.

  1. Turn on the printer.

  2. On the printer control panel, touch the Wireless icon .

  3. Touch the Settings icon .

  4. Touch Wireless Settings.

  5. Touch Wireless Setup Wizard.

  6. Follow the instructions on the control panel to connect the printer to your wireless network.

Now try to install the printer drivers again as an administrator. If the installation is still not successful, try to install the Windows built-in drivers and check if that works. Once the printer is connected to the home network, then Go to http://hp.care/2nxKJv8 and follow the steps under "Step 3".

Please let me know if this resolves the issue, or if you require further assistance!

Thank you 🙂

No I have not been connected to the direct printer at all. Always to my router. I just mentioned this as a side note.

I have had this same laptop and printer connected before with no issues. I am not understanding what has changed. I had to restore the computer because of other issues. Hence, there is very little on the computer. Would another restore take care of the problem? If so, I would gladly do it again.

Thanks

Also, I have had windows drivers downloaded at one point and the software still did not install. I will try again this evening since don't think they are installed any longer.

Hello, @aagarre

Try those steps and see if that helps!

Also, yes, you could try a Windows restore and then reinstall the drivers.

Thanks, I'll watch for your reply!

Cheers 🙂
