This is an ongoing problem I cant fix it. When I try printing a picture. Enter size and type of paper. enter size of photo It doesnt recognize they are the same, message says it cant preview so it wont print. This happens with all sizes I can only print on a 8X10 paper I am unable to locate a way to place photos in separate locations so its always a waste of paper and very frustrating. I have tried clicking the shrink to fit and every other setting that I can think of. I have been using HP and other printers for many years so its not like my first time

  • We do not know which Operating System and version you are using,
  • We do not know whether you have installed the Full Feature Software for the printer.
  • We do not know which software (program) you are using to print your photo / image

Lots of unknowns.

The following is necessarily somewhat general.

First,

Load the paper according to the instructions in your printer User Guide (Page 12)

Tell the printer about the paper in the tray.

If the printer is on your network, use the Embedded Web Server (EWS) to manage and configure your printer.

Example

Open your favorite browser > type / enter Printer IP address into URL / Address bar

Open Settings > Section Preferences > Tray and Paper Management

Adjust the settings

Click Apply to save any changes

Reference

User Guide > Chapter 2, page 15

If at all available for your Operating System, please download-save-install the Full Feature Software for your printer.

What you install and how you accomplish this depends on your Operating System / Version.

For example, for Windows

Software and drivers for HP DeskJet 2600 All-in-One Printer series

  • Download and Save the printer software installation file to your computer
  • Open File Explorer
  • Navigate to the folder in which you saved the Full Feature Software or HP Easy Start Printer Setup (likely Downloads)
  • Right-Click on the installation package and “Run as Administrator”

NOTES

  1. If you use the EasyStart method, select the Full Feature Software (full driver) when (and if) the option is presented. The name of the “full driver” might vary by printer model.  For example, the software might be called “Full Solution Software”.
  2. After the software is installed, Restart the computer and log in

Full Feature Software gives you control over the printer features,

Example - Printing Preferences - Windows 10 -

Note:  Settings may be at least somewhat relevant to older Windows versions.

Set the Preferences - Windows

  1. The following assumes the Full Feature Software has been installed.
  2. Check / enable the printer as the “Default Printer”
  3. Select and adjust settings in each category for the Media (kind of paper), source (tray), and paper size.

Control Panel > icon view > Devices and Printers > Right-Click on your printer > Set as Default

Control Panel > icon view > Devices and Printers > Right-Click on your printer > Printing Preferences >

Tab Printing Shortcuts > Click / Highlight preferred shortcut > Click Apply > Click OK to exit

If the printer software supports the feature, change the settings as desired, then use “Save as” to create a Custom Shortcut.

OR

Windows key + S (search for) Printers and Scanners

Left-Click on (your) Printer > Manage >

Printing Preferences

Select a shortcut and / or set “preferred settings” for paper, source (tray), other settings

Optional (if / as available): Save As > enter a name for your custom shortcut

Click OK to save the preferences

What else??

HP Smart Application

If you cannot manage - or do not choose - to install the Full Feature Software, consider:

Many printers can use the HP Smart Application on a number of platforms, including Windows 10 and recent versions of IOS.
