HP ENVY 4500
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hey Support.

My printer was working earlier on windows 10, but all of a sudden it stopped.

I have tried installing the printer via several different methods: Windows control panel, the all-in-one software provided by HP, by wireless and by cable, but the process comes to a stop at the same point everytime:

When using windows control panel for installing, the computer is able to detect the printer and seemingly partly install it, yet it says that "the driver is not available" and so the printer does not work or show up when trying to print. When using the all-in-one installer the printer is detected but the installation goes on endlessly and ends without succes.

I have also tried to install an earlier driver for windows 7 or 8 (can´t remember) as recommended in one post found here on the forum.

Thanks in advance,

Mikkel.

Hi @Kasp3R,

I reviewed the post comprehensively.  Great troubleshooting and brilliant effort to isolate the issue correctly. 🙂 If the printer works correctly from the tablet, then there is nothing wrong with the printer.

It certainly looks like an operating system issue with the computer as the software and drivers stored on HP support servers is downloaded every day by several customers for this model and it is tested for complete functionality before hosting it on our servers.

Please try to run system file check on your computer first. Link: https://support.microsoft.com/en-in/kb/929833

Then try all the steps from my previous post.

Later if nothing works, please back up all your files and perform a complete system recovery to factory settings by reinstalling the complete operating system on the computer and try to install the printer again as a last resort.

We have successfully deduced that the printer works fine with a different device and not this specific computer.

Hope this helps.  Let me know how this goes. I genuinely hope the issue gets resolved without hassles and the unit works great. Smiley Happy  Please reach out for any issues and I'll be there to assist you. Smiley Happy

You are a valued HP customer and we appreciate you greatly for doing business with HP. I have reviewed the situation and it is paramount that we address your issue. Thank you for giving us the privilege to assist you on this platform. 🙂

For better clarity, I would require more information regarding this.

  • Did it stop working after a windows 10 update or a software update?
  • Do you remember?

  • For starters, please uninstall the printer by performing these steps:
  •  In Windows, search for and open Programs and Features.
  • Select your HP printer.
  • Select Uninstall.
  • In Windows, search for and open Devices and Printers.
  • In the Devices and Printers window look for your HP Printer. If you see it listed, right-click on it and choose "Delete" or "Remove Device.”
  • Open up the run command with the "Windows Key + R" key combo.
  • Type printui.exe /s and click OK.
  • Click on Drivers tab.
  • Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it click on it and click Remove at the bottom.
  • Select OK.

Then install the latest full feature from this link: http://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/swdetails/HP-ENVY-4500-e-All-in-One-Printer-series/5...

If this does not help, please run the print and scan doctor utility from this link: http://support.hp.com/us-en/product/HP-ENVY-4520-All-in-One-Printer-series/5447920/model/5447921/doc...

Hope this helps.  Let me know how this goes. I genuinely hope the issue gets resolved without hassles and the unit works great. 🙂  Please reach out for any issues and I'll be there to assist you. 🙂

Hello David,

First of all thank you for your kindness and enthusiasm.

I have followed all the steps mentioned, including trying the scan and print doctor, alas no succes.

About your question, then I am not really sure when it stopped working. I could possibly have been after some windows update. I have now tried to roll back the windows updates, but I was only able to remove month old security update, which didn´t change the situation.

I tried printing by using a Samsung tablet, which worked. So the printer is functioning : )

Any advice?

Best regards,

Mikkel.
