Envy 5530 Printer
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi,

I was having a problem connecting wirelessly to my HP Envy 5530 using Windows 10.

I would set up the Wireless connection OK,  but when I turned  my Laptop off and then turned it on the next day I could no longer connect to my printer.

I would have to go to Devices/Printers settings in Windows 10 and remove the Envy printer and then go through adding a new printer to solve it.

This did not always work so I decided to remove the printer software and using HP remove software app did just that.

I then went to HP drivers and re-downloaded the software.

I then installed it following the on screen instructions and all seemed to go well apart from there was no HP printer short cut in the start menu, but there was the HP Smart app.

I have tried using it, but it seems to be a very cut down version of the previous HP software and is limited with what you can do with it.

Have I missed something or is this the latest version and it is no longer possible to install the previous software.

Thank you for reading my post and also thanks in advance for any suggestions to solve problem.

Regards, Mike

Thanks for reaching out to us on HP Support Forums. I came across your post and would like to assist.

I understand that you have an HP ENVY 5530 e-All-in-One Printer. I read that the HP printer loses the wireless connectivity often. You have to remove and reinstall the printer to make it work again. I appreciate the steps you have performed and have certainly done a good job.

Looks like the printer loses the wireless connection. Therefore let us assign a static IP address to the printer. This will ensure that the printer always stays connected to the wireless network The following steps will help:

  • Disconnect the power cable from the printer while the printer is still ON.
  • Disconnect any other cables if connected the printer.
  • Press and hold the printer’s power button for 15 seconds.
  • The printer should be directly connected to the wall outlet and not to a surge protector.
  • Reconnect the power cable to print and the printer should power ON by itself. If the printer doesn’t power ON then please manually power it ON.

Now let us assign the static IP address:

• Obtain the IP address of the printer – You can touch the “wireless” icon on the printer control panel to obtain the IP address.

• Type the IP address on your web browser to obtain the printer EWS page on your computer.

• Go to "Network" tab - General - Select "Network protocols" - Select "Enable IPv4 only" (or similar) - Apply the settings.

• Go to the “Network” tab – Click on “Wireless (802.11) – Then click on “Network address (IPv4)

• Click on the radio button which says “Manual IP” and then click “Suggest a manual IP address” to give a manual IP address to your printer.

• Click on radio button which says “Manual DNS Server” and under manual preferred type 8.8.8.8 and under manual alternate type 8.8.4.4 (This is Google DNS server address)

Add TCP/IP port:

  • Search Windows for devices, and then select “Devices and Printers” in the list of results.
  • Right-click the name of your printer, and then select “Printer Properties”.
  • The Properties window opens.
  • Click the “Ports” tab, and then click “Add Port”.
  • Select “Standard TCP/IP Port”, and then click “New Port”.
  • Type the printer’s IP address that you wrote down earlier, and then click “Next”.
  • Select the new “Standard TCP/IP Port” from the list, and then click “OK”.
  • Follow the on-screen instructions to finish the setup. Now try printing.

You may update the printer's firmware if the issue persists. Please download and run the firmware update via this link. Once the firmware is updated, you may restart the printer.

I genuinely hope the issue gets resolved without hassles and the unit works great. Let me know. Good luck! 🙂

Hi MKazi,

Thank you for your reply and helpful suggestion.

I managed to follow your precise instructions and did as you said upto the point about changing the TCP/IP Port.

I admit I hesitated at that point as I managed to get the printer working.

I have now rebooted the Laptop and managed to reconnect to the Printer OK.

I will try it again tomorrow and see if it has finally cured the problem.

Best regards,

                              Mike

Hi Mkazi,

Sorry but I am back to no printer on network.

I have removed device and tried to re install onto network but I now cannot find printer on the add printer setip oin windows and even the HP Print and Scan doctor does not find it.

I have uninstalled all the Printer software and then re-installed it and connected the printer via USB which works fine. there is then the option to change the connection to Wifi which it will not do even when right next door to printer.

The printer showsd it is connected to my Wifi Network and the signal is good.

I am now having to connect to printer via USB which means moving Laptop next to printer which is in another room, but I suppose I will have to do this every time I want to print or scan.

If it was not for needing to scan documents I would replace printer with my Canon IP 7250 which is having no problem connecting to network.

I have now run out of ideas and am going to keep trying as it had been working fine until a week ago.

That's fine and thank you for your reply.

Is the printer connected to the network and not found by the computer?

If the answer to the above question is a yes then it seems to be a driver issue. If the answer is no and also if the printer frequent disconnects from the wireless network then it is an issue with the printer.

I have sent a you a private message with the printer reset steps. Please reset the printer if it keeps disconnecting from the network.

If the printer is connected to the wireless network and only the computer cannot find it then the below steps to uninstall the drivers from the root level should help:

  • In Windows, search for and open Programs and Features.
  • Select your HP printer.
  • Select Uninstall.
  • In Windows, search for and open Devices and Printers.
  • In the Devices and Printers window look for your HP Printer. If you see it listed, right-click on it and choose "Delete" or "Remove Device.”
  • Open up the run command with the "Windows Key + R" key combo.
  • Type printui.exe /s and click OK.
  • Click on Drivers tab.
  • Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it click on it and click Remove at the bottom.
  • Select OK.
  • Select Apply and OK on the Print Server Properties windows.
  • Close Devices and Printers.
  • You may download and install the drivers from this link: www.123.hp.com

I genuinely hope the issue gets resolved without hassles and the unit works great. Good luck! 🙂

Hi MKazi,

I followed your instructions and have managed to hopefully reset the printer.

I now have connectivity to the printer and all seems OK at the moment.

When I go to the Printer Homepage EWS I can check most things but when I try to go to the Tools Tab and try to get Usage Reports or Event Log I am asked for a User Name and Password. I am assuming that due to resetting every thing that the User Name is " admin ",  but I have no idea what the Password is and I have tried finding the Default Password on here but have had no luck, so what are the Default User Name and Password for this printer ??.

Thankyou once again for your help.

Best regards,  Mike

Hi Flower_Bud,

Thank you for your reply.

I have done the steps that you have suggested and as I said the printer is connected OK.

When I go to the EWS Page and the Tools Tab or Settings TAB I am being asked for a password to change anything to do with the Printer Logs.  Please see attached Screen Printer screen 15-12-2017.jpg
