Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have few days back upgraded my Dell Latitude Laptop from Windows 7Pro to Windows 10Pro. I have a HP Laserjet M1136 MFP which was operational in Win 7Pro but the new OS tried to auto download a HP Laserjet Professional M1136 MFP and aborted once it did not find the printer. I have separately tried to install an older exe file of Laserjet M1136 MFP but after 100% extraction, there is no output file created. I have also tried using HP's Print & Doctor utility, it identifies my printer erroneously as HP Laserjet Professional M1136 MFP and takes me to a page which again gives printer driver not found.

Would be grateful if there is any solution other than reformatting and reinstalling Windows again. Then also am not sure whether this will work

@sidchat, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

The printer driver for HP LaserJet Pro M1136 Multifunction Printer is not available for Win 10 OS on the HP Support site.

You may install the printer driver compatible with Win 8.1 OS on your Win 10 PC that may help.

Root uninstall and reinstallation of printer drivers:

  • Go to Control panel – Programs and feature – Select all the HP OfficeJet printer entries and uninstall them.
  • Now go to Control panel – Devices and printer – Select all the printer entries and remove the device.
  • Then press the "windows key" + "r" to get the "Run" window open - Type "printui.exe /s" and press enter.
  • Under print server properties, go to drivers - remove any entry there as well.
  • Again, go to run window, type – “c:/programdata” – Go to Hewlett Packard folder, remove any printer related folders & files.

Click here to download the HP Full-featured driver. Disconnect any USB cable if connected. Connect it when prompted by the software.

Once downloaded, make sure to run the file to start the installation and follow the on-screen instructions.

Try printing.

If the issue persists, Install the printer using Windows built-in driver

Refer to this document to know how.

Let me know how this goes.

I had an update from Mr Kumar from the support team however the problem still persists.

The printer mentioned by Mr. Kumar was HP Laserjet PRO M1136 MFP instead of HP Laserjet M1136 MFP. I  think this may be a typo.

I have cleaned the Printer drivers thru the steps indicated by Mr Kumar and then downloaded the exe file. This file extracts upto 100% and then no output file is created or no further action happens. Have tried this earlier also (couple of times it gave an error message stating 'cannot delete output file', midway thru the extraction process - however the extraction kept happening and then no output created).

I then tried to install printer thru windows built in driver thru the process mentioned. It recognised the printer, but no driver was downloaded.

I also tried searching for a windows 8.1 compatible driver but search commands only landup on the general exe file which supports windows versions from 7, 8 and 10.
