HP Photosmart 6510 all-in-one
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Windows 10 is my OS.

When I open the print dialogue box, and click on properties , I get the '<<PRINTER NAME>> document properties' box. This box has 2 tabs, ‘Layout’ and ‘paper/quality’.

The problem is with the ‘paper/quality’ tab. When I open this, the ‘quality settings’ box is present,  but the lower box entitled ‘colour’ isn’t. I’ve tried using HP's Scan and Print Doctor and also their suggestions on the support site, but none will recover the lower ‘colour’  box.

I'm wondering whether this is a Windows 10 problem, as the ‘colour’ box is present on my other laptops and pcs that run Windows 8.1, and in one case Windows XP.

Below is a screenshot showing the colour box I'm referring to:

Hi @petermw2233,

Thank you for posting on HP Forums,

The Jeet_Singh is at your service.

I understand you have a HP Photosmart 6510 printer and having an issue with the printer properties missing. Don't worry as I have a few suggestions which should help you resolve this issue.

Let's start off by uninstalling the printer and installing the full feature software.

1.) In Windows, search for and open Programs and features

2.) Select your HP Printer

3.) Select Uninstall

4.) In Windows, search for and open Devices and printers

5.) In the Devices and Printers windows look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose 'Delete' or 'Remove Device'

6.) Open up the run command with the "Windows key + R" key combo.

7.) Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between “printui.exe” and “/s”)

8.) Click on the "Drivers" tab

9.) Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click Remove at the bottom

10.) Select Ok

11.) Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows

12.) Close Devices and Printers

13 ). Restart the PC

14 ). Now click on this link: http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software12/COL39526/mp-108880-4/PS6510_1315-1.exe and install the updated printer drivers

15 ). Connect the USB cable only when prompted and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the setup.

You can easily do this by following the steps below:

Go to control panel – Printers and Faxes.

Right-click on Photosmart 6510 and select printing preferences.

Now go to paper quality / layout tab and look for “Print in Grayscale” option.

Uncheck the grayscale option or select the color printing option. Apply and save the settings.

Those steps should do the trick. Let me know the outcome!

Let me know if those steps worked for you.

If they did, that’s awesome!

Give us some reinforcement by clicking the solution and kudos buttons,

That’ll help us and others see that we’ve got the answers!

Good Luck.

Hi Jeet,

Yes it did work! - and I'm very grateful to you.

I'd tried some of the steps in your list, but the one I hadn't was step 7 in your list and this appears to have made the difference.

Thanks again.

Regards.
