Operating System: Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I've always used the HP Printer Assistant to perform scans on my HP printer and save esulting pdf file on my computer, But now the Printer Assistant software no longer recognises my printer and fails if I try to install it. But I can do scans through the Windows App so the computer is definitely connected. I've updated my HP software but no change. What can I do?

My printer is the HP Officejet Pro 8620 e All-in-One. When I tried to reinstall the HP software I got the error that it could not find the computer's name on the network.  This was after I typed in the printer's hosr name. When I used the printer's IP address the error was not so explicit but I can't recallexactly what. I disabled the Windows 10 firewall but this made no difference.

Just re-checked the error message. It is:

Computer's network name - unable to retrieve

It's the same message if I type in the printer's IP address - so my previous post was wrong on that score.
