Officejet 4650
Microsoft Windows Vista (64-bit)

The HP download screen says Vista 64-bit is supported, but Step 2 of the installation says it's not supported.

What goes??

Use the CD that came with the printer and opt for setup using the CD rather than web. That's what finally worked for me.

Hello, @PeterMartin1 – Hope you are well 🙂

Thank you for becoming an HP Forum member. It is a great location to get help from the community, get suggestions and find what has worked for others!

Going through your post, I see that you are facing issues while installing the printer. Please try the steps listed below:

  • Unplug the USB cable from the printer and computer if present.
  • Go to Control panel – Programs and feature – Select all the HP Deskjet printer entries and uninstall them.
  • Restart your computer.
  • Now click on http://hp.care/2rZvlX1 to download and install the printer drivers.
  • Connect the USB cable if prompted and follow the onscreen instructions to complete the installation.

Those steps should do the trick, let me know the outcome!

Good luck 🙂

I followed the five steps outlined in your response, with exactly the same results. The HP download screen says Vista is supported and Step 2 of the installation procedure says it isn't.

What next?

Many thanks for the CD suggestion. I'll let you know how I make out.

Roland, Many thanks for your suggestion to use the HP CD to install my HP4650 on a Vista operating system. I got one sent from England. It arrived today and worked like Gang Busters.

Thanks again. My wife appreciates being able to print from her laptop instead of transporting her documents over to mine.
