Thank you for posting on the HP Support Community.

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, however, to provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:

  • Did this happen after a recent window or software update?
  • Have you made any hardware/software changes?
  • Did you make any changes on the settings of your PC prior to the issue?
  • When was the last time it worked fine?
  • What is the product number of your device? Use this link to find it: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03754824

Keep me posted for further assistance.

It is so intermittent and I think it has been happening since I downloaded a HP update. but I don't really remember for sure. When I shut down my computer it comes up probably every tenth time I just hit okay and I shut down. Since I had time I wrote down the info and thought I would try and get to the bottom of it. I've run the print and scan doctor with no results. Maybe I'm missing an update.. It hasn't really been a problem yet that I know of.

Thank you for posting back.

Firstly, perform Windows Update and HP Support Assistant: (do not skip any troubleshooting steps if you feel steps are repeating)

To check for updates now, select the Start button, and then go to Settings  > Update & security  > Windows Update, and select Check for updates.

Install updates from HP Support Assistant: Go to Download HP Support Assistant to install the tool.

  1. To open HP Support Assistant, double-click the HP Support Assistant icon https://support.hp.com/doc-images/932/c05040382.jpg.
  2. Click My devices in the top menu, and then click Updates in the My PC or My notebook pane.
  3. Click Check for updates and messages to scan for new updates.
  4. Review the list of updates. Updates with a yellow information icon are recommended. Updates with a blue information icon are optional.
  5. Click the update name for a description, version number, and file size.
  6. Select the box next to any updates you want to install, and then click Download and install.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

As I shut down yesterday it popped up so i said lets run cleanup and defrag to see what happens. Then it shutdown okay. But it is intermittent so this didn't mean anything to me. This morning I thought lets run HP print and scan For the first time it asked if I wanted to update, I thought that it always asked if I wanted to do this? When i started my computer. It took a while and it had me re register my printer When it searched again for my printer  for the first time it come up with two and mine as not connected? I selected it anyhow and it had me load software again? But I don't understand why it had me re register? It also gave me an email for a printer??? So I guess I will see what happens before I check on line?
