HP Color Laser Jet Pro M252n
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I am trying to set up the M252n printer to print in black and white mode rather than its default setting which is Color (including black and white). For a good proportion of my printing the colour content of the source material is not overly important and it seems inappropriate to waste colour toner in these instances.

If anyone knows how I can achieve this result I would be most grateful. Thank you for your help

Hi @SM63M,

Welcome to HP Forums, this is a great place to get support, find answers and tips.

Thank you for posting your query, I'll be more than glad to help you.

I understand that you want to change the print settings to print in black only on your HP Color LaserJet Pro M252 printer.

This issue could occur if the print in grayscale option is not checked in the drivers.

Let's go through a few steps listed below:

On the Color or Features tab, or in Advanced Options, click the menu next to Print in Grayscale and select Off for color prints, High-Quality Grayscale, or Black Ink Only

You may also check the steps the link: Print Driver Settings Guide (Windows)

Let me know if this works.

You have a good day ahead.

Hi @ Rainbow23,

Thank you so much for your reply to my question.

By following the approach you outlied I have been able to configure the HP Color Laser Jet Pro M252n printer to print in black and white regardless of source content. In practise the printer menu's I have within my driver appear a little different to what you outlined but the functionality is exactly as you described;

Firstly within 'Devices and Printers' (via Control panel) I right clicked on 'Printer preferences' and then selected  the  'Color' drop down and set  'Print in greyscale' to ON as you indicated,  I also changed the color options setting (just above) from Automatic to Manual and finally clicked on the adjacent 'Settings' box and changed the default for 'Photographs'  from 'Neutral Greys 4 color' to 'Neutral Greys Black only', OK'd it and hit the Apply changes box. Hey presto printing is in Black and White only......

By using the 'add printer' option I then copied the driver and configured the copied version to print in color by reversing the above changes (re-naming the latter to distinguish between the two) so I can now select color or black and white very easily as required.

Thank you sincerely for your help and have a great day also.
