My HP Envy printer won’t give me the option to print in colour

I have exactly the same issue with my HP Envy 5540. I've tried printing in word and also in acrobat. I've tried checking and then unchecking the print in grayscale option. The firmware is up to date, the cartridges are fine but the printer refuses to print in colour, (the test page by the way does print in colour)

Hi! @Rasputin1309

Have you tried printing from a different application? Does the issue persist?

Does the issue persist when you make a copy from the printer?

Please try steps below in the Word application.

Click Print,

Select Printer properties,

Select Paper/Quality tab,

Click Advanced,

Select Print Grayscale Off

Click Apply then OK

Disable UAC on the PC.

  1. In Windows, search for and open Control Panel.

Lastly, Uninstall the printer software from the root level and install the full feature printer software.

Click on Drivers tab.

Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it click on it and click remove at the bottom.

My HP Envy printer won’t give me the option to print in colour

The printer appears to have decided it wants to work properly again without me having to jump through hoops. Thanks very much for your reply, the steps you described here were not necessary on this occasion but I'm sure they will be in the future.
