I recently bought a HP OfficeJet 3833, and it can't print color. I dont even have the button on the properties of the printer to change it from black to color. Is it a software problem? I've tried changing Word documents to PDF and they still come out black, and i swapped it from black to color. I've also tried unninstalling everything and installing it again, also didn't work. The cartridges are new, and if i do a color check on the printer, it prints color. Im only able to print black from the PC to the printer.

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Let's try to do a root uninstall and reinstall of the software:

Unplug any USB cable, if any, before doing this.

1.) In Windows, search for and open Programs and features

2.) Select your HP Printer

3.) Select Uninstall

4.) In Windows, search for and open Devices and printers

5.) In the Devices and Printers windows look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose 'Delete' or 'Remove Device'

6.) Open up the run command with the "Windows key + R" key combo.

7.) Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between “printui.exe” and “/s”)

8.) Click on the "Drivers" tab

9.) Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click Remove at the bottom

10.) Select Ok

11.) Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows

12.) Close Devices and Printers

13.) Open up the run command with the "Windows key + R" key combo

14.) Type c:/programdata and click Ok. Go to Hewlett Packard folder, remove any printer related folders & files.

15.) Restart the computer.

Once done, please download and install the software from here:

Hello! Thank you for the reply!

I've followed every step and it still isn't printing in color, only black and grey.

The problem remains the same, the printer can print the tests with color, but if i try to print a document from the computer (Microsoft Word, for example) it prints only in black and grey.

It doesn't even show any button whatsoever to choose what color to print the document.

Going step by step, i've encountered a few missing "things".

2) Did not find my HP Printer in the Program and Features, only on the Devices tab from Settings;

9) Did not find any HP Drivers, only Microsoft ones (like XPS, etc..). So I kept going;

14) Did not find any related folders or files to any printer in the Hewlett-Packard folder so I didn't remove anything;

Then restarted the computer, installed the recommended drivers, it installed, followed the instructions, etc..

To finish, i tried to print a "Test" Word Document with 3 different colours, being one black, one red and one blue. The black word came out black, good, the red and the blue one came grey, not good. I even unninstalled Office and reinstalled it but that didn't work as well.

So, I'm still stuck, I'm assuming this is a software related issue, but I can't find anything wrong, waiting for a reply.

Thank you for your help!

I would suggest you try the Windows built-in drivers. Follow the steps below:

•    Go to Control Panel - Devices and printers - Click on "Add printer" and follow the on-screen instructions.

•    When the page prompts for the drivers, select "Windows update". The driver list will be updated.

•    Click HP, Hewlett Packard, or Hewlett-Packard in the Manufacturer pane, and then click the name of your printer in the Printers pane.

Refer to this document HP Printers - Installing and Using the Windows Built-in Print Driver for help

Keep me posted.
