HP 7610
Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)

My trusty HP 7610 suddenly stopped printing or scanning. I uninstalled the driver and now can't get a new driver installed because the PC doesn't seem to recognise the connection. Have tried three different cables and three different usb ports! What on earth is going on? NB I don't want to connect by other method due to poor signal in the location of my home office.

@SFC69, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

 

Check for any pending Windows update on the PC.

Have you tried connecting the printer to a different PC and check if the issue persists?

Do you have any Anti-virus program installed on the PC?

 

Reset the printer

  1. With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
  2. Wait at least 60 seconds.
  3. Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.
  4. Turn ON the printer, if it does not automatically turn on.
  5. Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you proceed.

Note: HP recommends connecting the printer directly to a wall outlet rather than a surge protector or a power strip.

 

Update the printer firmware

Click here to know different methods of updating printer firmware.

 

When you connect the printer and the PC using the USB cable, go to the device manager and check under USB if the printer is detected.

I had tried that. What eventually worked was uninstalling all HP software. I had uninstalled the driver but obviously something else was causing a problem.
