HP DeskJet Ink Advantage 3785
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have bought a new HP printer yesterday, the "HP DeskJet Ink Advantage 3785".

I plugged it in and installed the software from the HP website, but the printer doesn't work.

I have put the cartridges in, connected the power, the usb (the PC recognised the printer), and some paper.

The resume light and ink alert light are blinking, and the monitor changes between the "E" and "3".

I have went to the HP website to check what to do in this exact situation, but the solution isn't working for me.

When I try to print/scan/copy, the printer isn't doing it.

When I disconnect the usb and let it go to wireless mode - the same happens.

Does anyone have any clue as to what I can try next? It's the first time a printer I bought doesn't work fresh out of the box...

Welcome to HP Support Forums. 🙂 I came across your post and would like to help.

I understand that you have a new HP DeskJet Ink Advantage 3785 All-in-One Printer. The resume and ink alert lights are blinking on it. The printer screen changes from E to the number 3. The printer is unable to print, copy and scan. Both USB and wireless connection do not work. I'll do my best to help you out with this printer issue.

I would like to know the following information to assist you better:

  • Has all the packaging material been removed from the inside of the printer and also from the cartridges?
  • Have you restarted the printer?

Meanwhile, I recommend you to perform the following steps to isolate the issue and arrive at a fix:

  • Disconnect the power cable from the printer while the printer is still ON.
  • Disconnect any other cables if connected the printer.
  • Press and hold the printer’s power button for 15 seconds.
  • The printer should be directly connected to the wall outlet and not to a surge protector. Reconnect the power cable to print and the printer should power ON by itself. If the printer doesn’t power ON then please manually power it ON.

Now, please try to remove the carriage manually inside the printer and check if it moves freely. If the carriage is stuck and does not move then please perform the steps as described in detail from this link: http://hp.care/2mFOPvz

If the lights continue to blink then the steps from this link will help: http://hp.care/2mFKZ5Y

I sincerely hope this fixes the issue. Let me know the outcome. Cheers! 🙂

Hey,

- I have unboxed the printer like in the HP video in https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CoaeaHN7G_o

- I have followed your instructions, also the instructions on the page you linked, none helped

- The printer is connected directly to the wall

Any other ideas?
