After installing the last update for the printer software I've now lost my HP Scan driver HP CLJM144. I preferred using HP Scan over HP Scan and Capture.

Also I've lost my printer's icon in the control panel.

I've removed the software and reinstalled twice and still have the same problem.  I tried to perform a system perform but it failed to return the computer to the previous state.

When is HP going to allow us to scan photo's at 1200 dpit using the feeder?

Printer Icon now showing as a folder and not a printer.  Last week it was just empty space with no picture.

Still have HP Scan installed but unable to use it due to the driver being deleted during the update.

Hi @tjernagel,

Good Day! A warm welcome to the HP support forums. I came across the post regarding the printer’s scan option missing.  I’ll be delighted to assist you with this. Smiley Happy

Stupendous description and superb diagnosis of the issue were done before posting. You are a valued HP customer and we appreciate you greatly for doing business with HP. I have reviewed the situation and it is paramount the issue.

  • Did you run HP print and scan doctor?

For starters please uninstall the printer software following these steps:

  • In Windows, search for and open Programs and Features.
  • Select your HP printer.
  • Select Uninstall.
  • In Windows, search for and open Devices and Printers.
  • In the Devices and Printers window look for your HP Printer. If you see it listed, right-click on it and choose "Delete" or "Remove Device.”
  • Open up the run command with the "Windows Key + R" key combo.
  • Type printui.exe /s and click OK.
  • Click on Drivers tab.
  • Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it click on it and click Remove at the bottom.
  • Select OK.
  • Remove all instances of the same.
  • Select Apply and OK on the Print Server Properties windows.
  • Close Devices and Printers.

Then reinstall the printer software. That should do the trick for you.

If this does not work, please run the print and scan doctor utility from this link to try and correct the issue.

Regarding the other question about scanning at 1200 dpi from the feeder, that feature should be supported by the feeder.

Please look up the product specifications link According to this it is supported.

Hope this helps.  Let me know how this goes. I genuinely hope the issue gets resolved without hassles and the unit works great. Smiley Happy  Please reach out for any issues and I'll be there to assist you.  Smiley Happy

Almost a full thumbs up!  🙂

Under "Programs and Features" I did not have a selection for HP Printer to uninstall.

Using the printui.exe /s and manally removing the printer drivers resolved the issues I had.

The printer is installed and working.

You are correct I should be able to use the document feeder and scan higher than 300dpi but the software does not allow it.  See the video below.

If I have 100 pictures that need to be scanned they have to be scanned one at a time and it's a painstackinly long process. There is no reason this should be limited to the flatbed only.

Yes I did use HP Scan Doctor to try to resolve the issue. It just kept reinstalling the software and never resoved the issue which is what prompted me to make the post to this forum...

Thanks for the support! Hopefully HP will fix the automatic document feeder and 1200dpi issue...

Hi @tjernagel,

I reviewed the post comprehensively. Brilliant effort and great resolve to try and resolve the issue. Kudos to you for a job superbly done. 🙂 I am really glad that we got the printer working again and you are happy about it. 🙂

The document feeder is not designed like the flatbed. So scanning will be different from the flatbed scanner.

'try to use HP scan and capture app from this link to scan from the document feeder.

You've been simply fabulous to work with, considering your technical expertise and exhaustive technical skills. 🙂  It has been an absolute privilege to share this platform with you. 🙂 Trust me, I've done all I can to assist you, by keeping your best interest in mind.

HP Scan and Capture will limit the auto feeder to 300dpi.  I'm not a big fan of Scan and Capture but thought I'd use it today.  It starts up and quits.  I ran HP Print and Scan Doctor v5. No issues found.

Removed software and drivers, reinstalled, same issue. I never had this issue before...

See video below. Thoughts?

Hi @tjernagel,

The issue I think could be with the operating system of the computer. You've done brilliant troubleshooting and I am amazed by your technical expertise. Kudos to you for that. 🙂

Please create a new user account and try to install scan and capture and check again if it works.

Please click here for creating a new administrator account. Please follow the steps in the option "Creating a new account".

Then check again. if this does not work, please backup all your files and perform a complete reinstallation of the operating system to factory settings and reinstall the printer software. Also, reinstall HP scan and capture.

Now there could be a possibility that the software may still not allow you to scan at 1200 DPI. It could be possible that the feature is not included or supported by the software. We would have then explored all options here.

Trust me I've done everything here to assist you by keeping your best interest in mind. 🙂 You've  been absolutely superb to work with, by displaying great technical skills. 🙂 I thank you again for your time. It has been an absolute privilege to share this platform with you. 🙂 I hope things work great for the printer.
