I'm having the exact same problem - I've never had this problem (years) until recently.

Default setting for print will not hold and change back to defaults.  This is not something I do not know how to set up.

 

I normally print black ink only - draft quality...it not only prints high quality and full color.  I first noticed this about the New Year.  Printer will not print even one job in black ink/draft as it reverts to default immediately.

You are correct. That is exactly what my issue was. My resolution was to delete the printer and reinstall. I don't know why this worked. I only know that once I completed the reinstall I could change the printer characteristics and they stayed. This is still working today.
