@Snow18, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Try making a standalone copy in black and color and check if that works. By this, we can conclude if this is a hardware or a driver issue.

If you are not able to make a copy, perform steps 2 and 3 from this document.

If you are able to make a copy, the hardware of the printer is working fine. Proceed to the next step.

Update the printer firmware

Click here to know different methods of updating printer firmware.

Which application are you trying to print from?

Try printing different types of documents like PDF, Word or Webpages and check if the issue persists.

Add the printer using AirPrint driver

1.) Click the Apple menu, click System Preferences, and then click Print & Scan or Printers & Scanners.

2.) Check if your printer name displays in the Printers list, If your printer is listed, click the printer name, click the minus sign to delete the printer.

3.) If you see multiple printer queues for the same printer, remove all extra printers by selecting them one at a time, and then clicking the minus button at the bottom of the list.

4.) Click the plus sign, click Add Printer or Scanner, click the printer name.

5.) Click the Use or Print Using menu, select AirPrint in the pop-up menu. Then click Add.

Select AirPrint from the Use menu

6.) Try to print.

Thanks for your response.

I completed steps 1-4 but I cannot complete step 5 as I do not have an AirPrint in the pop-up menu.  Also I am unable to make a copy in black or colour.

@Snow18

Kindly verify if the printer you use is a HP Officejet Pro 8500A e-All-in-One Printer Series (A910). This printer supports AirPrint. If you have a different model Officejet 8500, it may not be compatible with AirPrint.

Refer to this document to know how to find the Product Name or Product Number.

Since you are not able to make a copy in black or color, this seems like a hardware issue. Let us try these steps:

Check the ink level in the printer.

Use an automated tool to clean the printheads

  1. On the control panel, touch the right arrow  to display the second navigation screen.

  2. Touch Setup, and then touch Tools.

  3. Touch Clean Printheads.

Print a Print Quality Diagnostics Page

  1. n the control panel, touch the right arrow  to display the second navigation screen.

  2. Touch Setup, touch the down arrow , and then touch Reports.

  3. Touch Print Quality Report.

Let me know how this goes.
