Apologies for the inconvenience. As of now, we do not have a TAT as when the updated version of HP Easy Scan will be released. For more info on this issue, refer to this document.

Yes. After installing the 6978, I found that I am unable to open the HP Utility. In talking with an HP representative, I learned that there are some incompatibilities between 10.15.1 and the 6978's software, and that I will have to wait for an update of either side before my issue is resolved.

You may download the HP utility from here. HP Easy Scan is not compatible with macOS 10.15 Catalina. We're actively working to restore complete functionality.
