HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus
macOS 10.15 Catalina

Following an IOS upgrade, I know can't print from my iMac to Officejet Pro 8600 plus printer, via my home network - I have to switch to the printer wireless network, which is really inconvenient.  Contacted Apple, who seem unable to help - any thoughts?  Thanks

@Mark-Norwcih, Welcome to HP Support Community!

I understand you are unable to print to the printer after the OS update. Let us try to isolate the issue and then perform some troubleshooting steps. Here is what you need to do-

Perform a ping test using the Mac Network Utility and let me know the results?

Use the printer IP address to perform a ping test, the printer IP can be located by selecting the wireless icon on the printer display.

The wireless status menu on your Mac should also give us quite a lot of information that would help us identify the issue. You can press and hold option-click the WiFi icon and then use shift-command-5 to take the screenshot. Press the space bar when the icon turns into a camera. Share the ping test results and the screenshot with us.

If the ping test passes without any packet loss, let us try to remove and add the printer. Follow the steps below-

Ensure that the printer is up to date with its firmware. If you are unsure you may use the link below to update the printer firmware:

Update printer firmware

Remove and add the printer

Click the Apple menu, and then select System Preferences.

Depending on your operating system version, click Print & Fax, Print & Scan, or Printers & Scanners.

Click the name of your printer, click the Minus sign, and then delete the printer.

Select printer and click the minus sign

Click the Plus sign, and then click Add Printer or Scanner.

Click the Use or Print Using box, and then select AirPrint

Select AirPrint from the Use menu

Click Add to add the printer to the list.

Try to print.

HI, tried to ping the printer, but got no response.

I have tried all I can think of, eg removing the printer from my home-hub network and re-instating, but to no avail.

I can contact the printer from my iphone, but it is my iMac that is struggling - but it will print if I connect to the printer's wireless network, but that means I have to keep switching networks, which is really frustrating.

Please be aware that I have recently upgrade to Catalina 10.15.1 OS

Any other suggestions?

Thanks for replying!

To further isolate the issue, I would need the following details-

  • What is the make and model of your router?
  • Is there any antivirus/security software installed on your computer?
  • The wireless status menu on your Mac should also give us quite a lot of information that would help us identify the issue. You can press and hold option-click the WiFi icon and then use shift-command-5 to take the screenshot. Press the space bar when the icon turns into a camera. Share the ping test results and the screenshot with us.
  • Print a network configuration page on the printer and share the picture of the same. Touch right arrow, select Setup, select Network, and then select Print Network Settings.

Keep me posted for further assistance.
