Safely donate printer - privacy?

I would like to donate my printer, but want to remove any sensitive info.  It is an HP Deskjet 4180. Do I just reset to factory default settings? Please advise on steps I need to take.  I posted a question at Fixya (or something like that) but became leery when a posted answer told me to call a # (which I did), but I stopped when he told me that he would have to have access to my computer and that it was nothing that I could do myself. I quickly hung up and then thought of this forum.
