HP officejet 6500a plus
macOS 10.14 Mojave

Hi,

I own an HP Officejet 6500a and the touchscreen does not work. I had to factory reset the printer and I cannot get past the language selection because of the touch screen. Please do not recommend turning the printer off and on etc as I have tried that, I am just really frustrated that I cannot set up a really good printer, I have full official HP ink that would be a shame if it had to go to waste and also the printer functions itself work so I would be really disappointed if I had to get rid of it. Can someone please tell me if I can remotely set up the printer on my MacBook or set it up without the screen

I hope to hear from you all soon!

Many Thanks

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

  • I'm afraid this seems to be a hardware issue with the display of the printer. Unfortunately, the printer cannot be setup/installed remotely as its settings were restored to factory defaults.
  • If the printer is connected to the wireless network, then we had an option to install it on your MAC. The factory reset would have wiped the wireless settings too.
  • Try connecting the printer to a wall outlet directly and check, if the issue persists, please contact our HP Support team for Service Options as it could be a possible hardware issue:

1) Click on this link - https://support.hp.com/us-en/contact-hp?openCLC=true

2) Select your product type below.

3) Enter the serial of your device.

4) Select the country from the drop-down.

5) Select the appropriate option based on your preference.

6) Fill the web-form and proceed further.

Keep me posted for any other assistance.

Thanks for replying,

The weird thing is is that when I plug the printer into the router, it actually comes up on HP Utility on my MacBook and tells me the info like ink supply etc. So is there not a way to set it up like this?

Check if the printer is connected to your wireless network by checking the Blue wireless light on the printer.

If the light is steady, it means it is connected to a network.

If the light is blinking, it is not connected.

If the printer is connected to the router using an ethernet cable, check if the MAC is able to detect the printer by following the below steps:

Update software on Mac

1.) Click the Apple menu, click System Preferences, and then click Print & Scan or Printers & Scanners.

2.) Check if your printer name displays in the Printers list, If your printer is listed, click the printer name, click the minus sign to delete the printer.

3.) If you see multiple printer queues for the same printer, remove all extra printers by selecting them one at a time, and then clicking the minus button  at the bottom of the list.

4.) Click the plus sign , click Add Printer or Scanner, click the printer name.

5.) Click the Use or Print Using menu, select AirPrint in the pop-up menu. Then click Add.

Select AirPrint from the Use menu

6.) Try to print.

Keep me posted on the progress.
