Windows 7 freezes when printing

We've recently created a new Print server in our main office. We used to have a Windows 2008R2 print server, but when we moved offices, decided it was a good time to upgrade. We built a new Windows 2016 server and added our new printers to it. The clients are running Windows 7 64bit. Since we've done this, we have a small percentage of users that have their machines freeze if they try to print. We are using the HP Universal Print Driver - PCL6 (v6.6.0) type 3 - user mode driver. I'm wondering if there is some sort of issue with the driver. We tested taking the server out of the loop and just adding the printer as an IP printer and have the same results. User goes to print from Word or Outlook and they freeze. They have to restart, then it will work for a few hours, then they have the same issue over and over again. Is there any issue with printing from Windows 7 while the print share is housed from a 2016 server?
