Hello. I just installed the printer yesterday. It's set up for wireless printing and prints fine through the HP Smart app for files I have saved on my Mac.  However, if I want to print from a document or page that is not saved, nothing happens and the message just says printer is not responding. It looks like everything is installed correctly. I'm not sure where to check to resolve the issue.

@jennincali808, Welcome to HP Support Community!

To be able to assist you better, I would like to know the following:

When you mention document not saved, are you trying to print webpages?

Have you tried restarting the devices to print?

Print and scan jobs can fail if a driver is not installed or there are connectivity or status issues.

  • Driver not installed: Go to System Preferences, click Printers & Scanners, click the + sign, and then add your printer.

  • Poor network connection: The network connection between the printer and the app is poor, and the app is unable to accurately obtain the printer status. Move the printer and computer closer to the wireless router. Try printing even if the app continues to display "offline." Sometimes the app is checking the printer status and might display "offline" when it is actually ready.

  • No network connection: The printer is no longer connected to the network or is not connected to the same network as your Mac. Make sure the printer is connected to the same network as your device.

  • Printer is in sleep power saving mode: The printer is in sleep mode or in power saving mode. Touch the printer control panel or press a button on the printer control panel to wake the printer, and then try printing even if the app continues to display "offline." Sometimes the app is checking the printer status and might display "offline" when it is actually ready.

  • Printer is off: Some printers have a feature to schedule a time to automatically turn off the printer. Make sure the printer is turned on and in a "ready" state, and then try printing even if the app continues to display "offline." Sometimes the app is checking the printer status and might display "offline" when it is actually ready.

Refer to the document HP Printers - Install and Use the HP Smart App (Mac)  for additional help.

Keep me posted for further assistance.
