Windows 7 64bit, M604dn.  When I plug the printer in to USB, Windows reads:  Windows can not identify the device plugged into the USB3.0 Root Hub.  During HP install, it does not communicate with printer.  Device Manager shows: Unknown Device.  Suggestions?

It sounds like you have a defective formatter.

It's likely that machine is in warranty so you could go to the support page on HP.com and look for the contact link to get in touch with HP support so it can be repaired.

If my post resolves your issue please click the accepted as solution button under it.

Your device USB port might be disabled, which can lead the OS to never attempt to enumerate the port.

To enable device USB:

Home button -> down arrow until you are over "administration", press ok -> down to "general settings", press okay -> down to "Enabel Device USB", press ok.

Once enabled, plug in the USB cable and run through the installation.
