I have just bought Photosmart 5510 and want to know how to activate the OCR software. This was the reason I selected the printer, but only seem to be able to scan in a picture typr format. URGENT HELP or I will have to return it to Staples as they assured me I could do it.

I have the same need for OCR software to use with my Photosmart 5510. However, when I downloaded the referenced package (23902_hpcom_ocr_120_003.exe) and ran it, the installer responds with:
"This update does not support any of the HP device drivers that you have on your PC. You do not need this software update."
Any suggestions on how to resolve this?

I have the same problem - install tells me that the drivers do not support the OCR software, although all my HP Photosmart 5510 software and my Windows 7 (64bit) are up to date. ????

No one will answer. There is no ocr capabilities built into the 5510. There a re several free programs you can ijmstalle which will allow you to scan a document and have it recreated into text via th eocr softare, but there is no software specifically for the HP 5510 printer.
