officejet pro 9010 do not install on server 2008 R2

Microsoft Windows Server 2008 (64-bit)

While installing printer pro 9010 to windows server 2008 enterprise R2 SP1, installer responds operating system is not supported! disappointing and astonishing, no clue to work this around. Printer works fine with driver  that came with windows server iso image. On https://support.hp.com/si-en/document/c03351547, it looks like the pro 9010 is not supported by server 2008 -whenever I try to install it the detected OS is displayed as to be windows 7, I did forcedly change to server 2008 R2, no chance to go any further other than downloading the installer and get stuck over again.- I installed the printer on windows 8.1 machine, works fine, also works fine on CentOS7 with hplip on dual bootable server machine. Why a pro driver cannot work with a pro OS? I neet the printer working to full throttle for small business.

Added: cannot install a driver for different printer whatever, from the downloaded package, the installer crashes and keeps on searching the printer, no chance to select a different driver, cannot reach that step, all looks to run automatically ...

Hi,

Have you tried installing the printer using an MSIEXEC command as instructed in the document?

Have you added an ENTERPRISE=YES attribute to the used command?

Say thanks by clicking the Kudos thumb up in the post.

This is a pro product designed for small number of users, hence the lack of support for enterprise OS. Just the wrong product for your application. HP clearly indicates supported OS'S on their spec sheets. You may find work arounda, however they are not supported by HP.

To clarify @Repairatrooper, the printer should work on server 2008 R2, as clearly listed on its specifications.

Installing the printer via the Command Line should be the correct method to install this type of printer.

You may find its specifications below, see the Compatible Operating Systems section

https://store.hp.com/sg-en/default/hp-officejet-pro-9010-all-in-one-printer-1kr53d.html

@giorgiovercelli- Although I originally referred to the MSIEXEC command line usage, have you tried the IT Professional Use only solution? either by double-clicking its Setup.exe file or by using it as the installation source while using the MSIEXEC command line?

https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software13/printers/OJP9010/OJP9010_Basicx64_49.1.4424.exe

As a reference see its driver page below with its description:

https://support.hp.com/sg-en/drivers/selfservice/swdetails/hp-officejet-pro-9010-all-in-one-printer-...

You may also check the IT Administrator Guide below for detailed information about installing the printer on a server:

http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c03809643

Additionally, ensure the Desktop Experience feature is installed on your server, it must be enabled for a successful USB or Network installation on 2008 R2

Just to clarify Shlomil  my statements were based on HP spec sheets that I found and general experience with client frustrations at getting small office products working in an enterprise environment.

https://support.hp.com/ca-en/document/c06237779#AbT19

No mention of support for Server based OS. That said, contradictions in specs are not unheard of with HP, although the link you provide makes no mention of support for Server OS either, only Windows 10, 8 and 7.

So far succesfully installed basic printing feature by command line. next step will be to implement scanning and fax features too.

The installer does not work with Server 2008 R2 enterprise, this might be clearly stated in HP web site for support, so that one cannot waste time trying to unpack the exe file and go staright to manula installation.

Thansk for support

Giorgio
