When printing any file document or Internet page/document using Iphone/Ipad with HP Smart, the last option from the print menu for 2-sided printing will not switch from default setting of “off” to “on”. There is no > symbol after the “off”, so the “off” setting is fixed and cannot be switched to “on”. Thus, I waste paper whenever printing more than one page.

Hi @kftz,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
The issue you're encountering with 2-sided (duplex) printing on your HP ENVY Inspire 7955e All-in-One Printer from an iPhone or iPad using the HP Smart app might be related to the app settings or firmware compatibility. Here are some steps you can try to resolve the issue.
Check Printer Firmware
- Ensure that your printer's firmware is up to date. You can check for updates using the HP Smart app or directly from the printer’s control panel under Setup > Printer Maintenance > Update the Printer.
HP Smart App Settings
- Open the HP Smart app on your iPhone/iPad.
- Navigate to the Print Settings when selecting your document.
- Ensure that the paper size and type settings are correct, as some types might not support duplex printing.
- Check if there is an update available for the HP Smart app on the App Store.
Print Using Apple AirPrint
- Instead of using the HP Smart app, try using AirPrint:
- Open the document you want to print on your iPhone/iPad.
- Tap the Share icon and select Print.
- Choose your HP ENVY Inspire 7955e printer.
- Look for the option to enable 2-Sided Printing (this should appear under the options if supported).
- If it does not appear, it might be a limitation in AirPrint or specific to the document type.
Reinstall the HP Smart App
- Uninstall the HP Smart app from your device.
- Reinstall it from the App Store and re-add your printer.
- Try printing again and see if the 2-sided option can be toggled on.
Reset Printer Settings
- As a last resort, you might want to try resetting the printer settings:
- On the printer, navigate to Setup > Printer Maintenance > Restore Factory Defaults.
- Reconfigure the printer through the HP Smart app and see if the duplex option is available.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

Thx for the help! Printer software is up to date. When i open doc, I do not see a share icon and under the print options, I only have “print” and “hp smart print”…. no air print option listed. If I use the “print” option, I can print 2-sided. But I get messages that lock up my phone screen saying “try again, or cancel, or continue print job, or printer is not available or printer is busy”. “Continue” often prints several copies (that i don’t want); “cancel” stops printing in middle of document; “printer busy or not available” makes no sense since its printing. This is why your rep yesterday told me to use HP Smart to print instead of print icon on the document being printed or in options list. HP Smart works fine except the 2-sided option that’s shown will not switch from off to on.
