HP OfficeJet 4650 All-in-One Printer
macOS 15.0 Sequoia

My 4650 won't stay connected to my network.  I can get it to work with wireless printing if I reset the network every time I want to print.   But this is extremely annoying for my family.    Wi-Fi direct works, but my family prints directly from the browser, which is less convenient because they have to switch off our home Wi-Fi.   And forget about AirPrint.  None of my devices sees that as an option for print.   I moved the printer next to my router to ensure signal strength.   Please help!

Hello,
Thank you for your post!
Here are quick fixes that can help in restoring the network.

If your HP OfficeJet 4650 printer is having trouble staying connected to your network, you can try the following steps to resolve the issue:

  1. Restart Devices:

    • Turn off your printer, router, and computer or device.
    • Wait for about 30 seconds and then turn the printer back on, followed by the router and then your device.
  2. Check Network Connection:

    • Ensure that the printer is within range of your Wi-Fi router and that there are no physical obstructions between them.
    • Verify that the network is working properly with other devices.
  3. Reconnect to Wi-Fi:

    • From the printer’s control panel, navigate to the Wireless or Network settings, and then select Wireless Setup Wizard.
    • Follow the prompts to select your network and enter the Wi-Fi password.
  4. Update Printer Firmware:

    • Check if there is a firmware update available for your printer model. You can do this via the HP Smart app or the printer's control panel.
  5. Assign a Static IP:

    • You can assign a static IP address to the printer to prevent it from losing connection due to dynamic IP changes.
    • Access the printer’s embedded web server (EWS) by entering the printer's IP address into a web browser.
    • Navigate to the IP configuration settings and follow the steps to assign a static IP.
  6. Network Configuration:

    • Ensure your network is configured to use the correct security settings (WPA or WPA2).
    • Make sure there aren’t any MAC filtering or Access Lists that might block the printer from connecting.
  7. Wireless Channel:

    • Sometimes changing the Wi-Fi channel on the router can resolve connectivity issues. Check your router’s settings and try switching channels.
  8. Check for Interference:

    • Other electronic devices and networks can interfere with Wi-Fi signals. Try to keep the printer away from such devices and networks.
