Hi @Jack1026,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The blue and yellow blinking lights on your HP OfficeJet Pro 8100 usually indicate an issue with the ink cartridges or the printer's ability to recognize them. Here's how you can troubleshoot this issue.

Ensure Cartridges Are Correct and Compatible

  • Verify that you are using genuine HP cartridges compatible with the HP OfficeJet Pro 8100.
  • Compatible cartridges for this model include the HP 950 (black) and HP 951 (cyan, magenta, yellow).

Reinstall the Cartridges

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Open the cartridge access door and remove all the cartridges.
  • Check the cartridges for protective tape or packaging, and remove any if present.
  • Inspect the cartridges and the contacts inside the printer for dirt or debris. Clean them with a lint-free cloth lightly dampened with distilled water if necessary.
  • Reinsert the cartridges firmly into their slots and close the access door.

Reset the Printer

  • Plug the printer back in and turn it on.
  • Wait for the initialization process to complete and check if the lights stop blinking.

Check for Firmware Updates

  • Go to the HP support website and check if there's a firmware update available for your printer model.
  • Install any available updates, as outdated firmware can cause cartridge recognition issues.

Perform a Hard Reset

  • Unplug the printer while it is on and wait for 60 seconds.
  • Plug it back in and power it on.
  • Check if the blinking lights issue resolves.

Inspect the Printer for Additional Errors

  • Check the printer’s control panel or HP Smart app for any error messages.
  • Perform any recommended troubleshooting steps indicated.

Test with Different Cartridges

  • If the problem persists, try a new set of cartridges to rule out defective cartridges.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
