envy 5640

Hi,

I have an Envy 5640 connected wirelessly to my network. However, Windows says it can't see the printer.

It was working fine a couple of weeks ago and the only thing that changed is a Windows update for December.

I can connect to the printer using my browser by going to the IP address of my printer.

HP Smart says it can see the printer. But when I try to print with windows it says the printer is not connected.

What is wrong and how do I fix it? Running the diagnose and fix tool in HP smart doesn't help.

Hi @ldupes,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It seems like there might be a communication issue between your Windows computer and the HP Envy 5640 printer. Here are some steps you can try to troubleshoot and resolve the issue.

Restart Devices:

  • Restart your computer.
  • Restart your HP Envy 5640 printer.
  • Ensure that there are no pending print jobs in the print queue.

Check Network Connection:

  • Confirm that your computer and the HP Envy 5640 are connected to the same wireless network.
  • Verify that the wireless connection on the printer is stable.
  • If possible, restart your router to ensure a fresh connection.

Update Printer Drivers:

  • Go to the official HP website and download the latest drivers for your HP Envy 5640 printer.
  • Install the updated drivers on your computer.

Remove and Reinstall the Printer:

  • Open "Settings" on your Windows computer.
  • Go to "Devices" and then "Printers & scanners."
  • Remove the HP Envy 5640 printer from the list.
  • Reinstall the printer by clicking on "Add a printer or scanner" and follow the on-screen instructions.

Disable Firewall/Antivirus:

  • Temporarily disable your firewall and antivirus software on your computer.
  • Try printing again to see if the issue persists.

Check Windows Update Settings:

  • Check your Windows Update settings to ensure that it hasn't been configured to block printer connections.
  • Go to "Settings" > "Update & Security" > "Windows Update" and check for any pending updates.

Check Port Settings:

  • Open "Devices and Printers" on your computer.
  • Right-click on the printer and select "Printer properties."
  • Go to the "Ports" tab and ensure that the correct port is selected.

HP Print and Scan Doctor:

  • Download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor tool from the official HP website. This tool can automatically diagnose and fix printing problems.

Reconfigure IP Address:

  • If the printer is accessible via its IP address in the browser, try reconfiguring the printer's IP address or assigning it a static IP.

Check for Windows Update Issues:

  • Sometimes Windows updates can cause printer connectivity issues. Check for any known issues related to the latest Windows updates and consider uninstalling them if needed.

Remember to re-enable your firewall and antivirus software after troubleshooting.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
