Can't connect to my printer supposedly due to MAC Address flitering, which I don't have as the Specturm guy didn't even know what I was talking about. I talked to spectrum and looked up how to fix it and nothing is working. I have connected spectrum interenet to this printer before, but now my new router is not connecting.

@kristenpare, Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like you're encountering an issue where your HP OfficeJet 3830 is unable to connect to your new router, and it's incorrectly indicating that MAC address filtering is blocking the connection. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try to resolve this issue:
Double-Check MAC Address Filtering Settings
Even if Spectrum mentioned they don't know what you're referring to, it's still a good idea to confirm whether MAC address filtering is enabled on your new router. This feature blocks devices from connecting unless their MAC address is explicitly allowed. To check:
- Log into your router:
- Open a web browser and type the router's IP address (e.g., 192.168.1.1, 192.168.0.1, or something specific to your router brand) into the address bar.
- Log in using the router's admin credentials (usually found on a sticker on the router or in the manual).
- Find MAC Address Filtering:
- Look for a section in the settings called "MAC Address Filtering," "Access Control," or something similar.
- Ensure that MAC filtering is disabled.
- If Enabled:
- You can either disable MAC address filtering or add the printer's MAC address to the allowed list. The MAC address can typically be found on a sticker on the printer or through the printer’s settings menu.
Reset Printer's Network Settings
If the MAC filtering setting isn’t the issue or the router is already set up correctly, try resetting the network settings on your printer to eliminate any conflicting settings.
- On the printer’s control panel, go to Settings > Network > Restore Network Defaults or similar.
- This will reset the printer’s network settings, allowing you to reconnect it from scratch.
Connect Printer to Router Again
Once the settings are reset:
- Ensure the printer is close enough to the router.
- From the printer's control panel, go to the Network Setup or Wireless Setup Wizard.
- Select your Wi-Fi network and enter the Wi-Fi password. Follow any on-screen instructions to complete the connection.
Update Printer Firmware
Sometimes, issues like these can be resolved by updating the printer’s firmware.
- On your computer, go to the HP Support website for your printer model.
- Download the latest firmware and follow the instructions to update the printer.
Check Router's Settings (Advanced Options)
If you’re still unable to connect, check if your router is set to use certain settings that might block the connection:
- Wi-Fi Security Protocol: Make sure your router uses WPA2 or WPA3 encryption. Some printers might not support WPA3.
- Dual-band Wi-Fi: If your router has both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands, try connecting the printer to the 2.4 GHz band.
Reinstall Printer Software
If the printer is still not connecting:
- Uninstall any existing printer software on your Windows 11 device.
- Reinstall the software from the HP website.
- When installing, choose the wireless connection option and follow the prompts to reconnect the printer.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
