HP OfficeJet Pro 8720 All-in-One Printer

I have a new MAC Mini. My printer and computer are on the same wireless network, but when I try to add the printer, I don't "see it" on my MAC. I've added it before and removed it because it showed "printer offline" when I tried to print.

Hi @OldPalmMan,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

I see we’ve got a little printer rebellion on our hands, your HP OfficeJet Pro 8720 is playing hard to get with your new Mac Mini! But no worries, we're about to smooth things over and get that printer back in action. Let’s take a look at a few steps to reconnect it, so you can get back to printing without any hassle.

1. Restart Everything

  • Turn off your printer, wait for 30 seconds, and then turn it back on.
  • Restart your Mac Mini.
  • Restart your router to ensure the network is working properly.

2. Reconnect Printer to Wi-Fi

Make sure your printer is still connected to the same network as your Mac Mini:

  1. On your HP OfficeJet Pro 8720, go to Settings > Network Setup > Wireless Setup Wizard.
  2. Select your Wi-Fi network and enter the Wi-Fi password to reconnect.
  3. Once connected, the printer should automatically show up on your Mac Mini.

3. Add Printer Manually on Mac

Try adding the printer manually in System Preferences:

  1. Open System Preferences on your Mac Mini and select Printers & Scanners.
  2. Click the "+" button to add a printer.
  3. Look for the HP OfficeJet Pro 8720 in the Printers list. If you see it, select it, and click Add.
  4. If the printer doesn’t show up, go to Software & Firmware on the HP website and make sure you have the latest drivers installed for macOS.

4. Set Printer as Default

  1. In Printers & Scanners, after adding the printer, click the HP OfficeJet Pro 8720 and select it as your default printer.
  2. Try printing a test page to ensure it's properly set up.

5. Reinstall the Printer Drivers

If it still doesn’t show up, uninstall and reinstall the printer drivers:

  1. Go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners.
  2. Select your HP OfficeJet Pro 8720, and click the "-" button to remove it.
  3. Visit the HP website to download the latest drivers for your printer and macOS version.
  4. After reinstalling the drivers, try adding the printer again.

6. Check for "Offline" Status

If the printer still shows as offline after adding it:

  1. In Printers & Scanners, select your printer, and uncheck "Use Printer Offline" if checked.
  2. If it's not showing any print jobs in the queue, but still says "offline", it might be a network issue. Try printing directly to the printer via USB as a temporary workaround, if possible.

Hopefully, these steps will help you breathe new life into your printer setup! If it’s still being stubborn, don’t hesitate to let me know, we’ll dig deeper and bring that printer back into the fold. Let’s get this all sorted, Old Palm Man!
