My Hp Ofgice Pro displays “connection error”. Reconnect the printer to the internet so that the printer can automatically order replacement cartridges.
I cancelled my automatic ink subscription. Now every time I try to print from my phone I get this message and must push “ok” to get it to print. The blue light is solid blue. If I don’t press “ok” within a short time, an error is returned to my phone.

Hi @OceanOutlaw,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
Thanks for explaining the situation clearly. What you're seeing is a persistent Instant Ink connection reminder. Even though you've cancelled the subscription, the printer firmware still tries to check in with HP's servers for Instant Ink services. Here's how to stop this message:
Steps to Remove the “Connection Error” Message:
- Disable Web Services:
- On the printer control panel, go to Settings > Web Services > Remove Web Services or Disable Web Services.
- Confirm the removal. This stops the printer from trying to connect to HP’s Instant Ink servers.
- Restart the Printer:
- Turn it off for 30 seconds and turn it back on. This helps apply the change.
- Turn it off for 30 seconds and turn it back on. This helps apply the change.
- Update Firmware (Optional):
- If the message persists, check for and install any firmware updates from the HP Smart app or your printer’s control panel (under Settings > Printer Maintenance > Update the Printer).
Please note: If you are using HP Instant Ink cartridges, you will need to remove them. Once the Instant Ink subscription is cancelled, those cartridges will be automatically disabled and will no longer function. To continue printing, please replace them with regular, genuine HP ink cartridges. Let us know if you need help identifying the correct cartridges for your printer.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

Hello Vikram,
Thank you for your response. I don't understand the process. My control panel does not have a Web Services tab under settings. I can find a Web Services tab for my printer on the HP smart website, the only option is to "reset" Web Services. it says "ok" when I press it but when I press OK it says a problem occurred try again. On the Web Services Summary it shows
I don't know how to disable Web services on my HP 9020. Firmware is up to date.

Hi @OceanOutlaw,
Thanks for the detailed explanation — I understand this has been frustrating. Based on what you’ve described, it sounds like you're trying to disable or reset Web Services on your HP OfficeJet 9020 series printer, but you're hitting a roadblock because:
- The Web Services tab is missing on the control panel.
- The reset option on the HP Smart website fails with an error when clicked.
Let me walk you through a clearer process to disable or reset Web Services directly on the printer itself (bypassing the HP Smart site).
Option 1: Use the Printer’s Touchscreen Panel
- On the printer touchscreen, tap the Settings icon (it looks like a gear ⚙️).
- Go to Network Settings or Printer Maintenance.
- Look for a menu called Web Services Setup or HP ePrint Setup.
- Tap Remove Web Services or Disable Web Services.
- Confirm any prompts.
📝 If you don't see "Web Services" directly, try:
- Tap Information > Printer Info — some models show Web Services options buried here.
- Tap Settings > Printer Settings > Web Services.
Option 2: Access Embedded Web Server (EWS) from a Browser
If your printer is connected to Wi-Fi, you can manage Web Services through its local IP address.
- On the printer screen, print a Network Configuration Page:
- Tap Settings > Reports > Network Configuration.
- Find the IP Address on that page (e.g., 192.168.1.104).
- Open a browser on your computer and enter that IP address in the address bar.
- This will open the Embedded Web Server (EWS).
- Click on the Web Services tab (it may be under the "Web Services" or "Settings" section).
- Click Remove or Disable Web Services.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
