Hi @Krystobel-55,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you are getting the clicking sound and lights being on could indicate a mechanical issue or a problem with the internal components of your HP ENVY 6420e All-In-One Printer.
Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and possibly resolve the issue:
1. Check for Paper Jams
- Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
- Open the printer cover and check for any paper jams or obstructions.
- Remove any debris or stuck paper carefully.
2. Reset the Printer
- Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
- Wait for about 60 seconds.
- Plug the printer back in and turn it on.
3. Check the Ink Cartridges
- Open the printer cover and ensure that the ink cartridges are properly installed.
- Remove and reinsert the ink cartridges to ensure they are seated correctly.
4. Firmware Update Update the firmware on an HP printer
- Check for any available firmware updates for your printer. Sometimes, updating the firmware can resolve such issues.
- You can do this through the HP Smart app or the HP Support website.
5. Hard Reset
- Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
- Press and hold the power button on the printer for about 30 seconds.
- Plug the printer back in and turn it on.
6. Check Printer Settings
- Make sure the printer settings are correct, and that there are no pending print jobs that might be causing the printer to attempt to print.
7. Inspect the Printer Mechanism
- If you're comfortable doing so, inspect the internal mechanism for any loose or broken parts.
Refer to this document: HP ENVY 6420e All-in-One Printer User manual
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
