@Tbankert, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding Direct Connection from HP ENVY 6400 Printer to Computer!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

If you are experiencing continual Wi-Fi connectivity issues with your HP ENVY 6400 printer, you can connect your printer directly to your computer using a USB cable. Here are the steps to do this:

Obtain a USB Cable:

  • Ensure you have a USB A-B cable, where one end has a square-ish type B connector that goes into the printer, and the other end has a flat type A connector that goes into your computer.

Prepare Your Printer and Computer:

  • Turn off your printer to begin the setup.
  • Make sure your computer is on and ready.

Connect the USB Cable:

  • Plug the type B connector of the USB cable into the USB port located on the back of the HP ENVY 6400 printer.
  • Plug the type A connector of the USB cable into an available USB port on your computer.

Turn on Your Printer:

  • Turn the printer back on using the power button.

Install Drivers and Software:

  • Windows: Windows should automatically recognize the printer and install necessary drivers. If it does not, you can manually download and install the full feature drivers from the HP Software and Driver Downloads.
  • Mac: Mac computers should auto-detect the printer and install the right drivers. If not, visit 123.hp.com/setup to download and install the appropriate drivers.

Configure Printer Settings:

  • After installation, launch the HP Printer Setup application to configure your printer settings.
  • Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the setup.

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!
