laserjet 3015
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

We have a laserjet 3015 USB connected to a computer on our home lan.

 

Every time we connect a new computer to the lan we have a hassle finding and connecting to the printer.

like today. 

 

i've downloaded two of HP's 'find printer' utilities to help with it,  I've been to 123.com and support pages and nothing from HP can find and install the printer.

 

Yet the printer is clearly on view in Windows Explorer right there on the new computer.

 

I note the HP software often leaves me in doubt as to exactly what it is talking about when  I am trying to answer its prompts: I mean the network is wifi but the printer is usb connected.  I'm never clear whether it is talking about the printer or this new computer or the computer it is connected to or the lan itself.

 

however i try every option I can and finish up with the same result: failure.  today.  though I've had success other days and I don't really know why.  Windows seemed to find it itself and install it.

 

This time Windows tried to install it and told me it couldn't because drivers were missing.  At the same time as supposedly downloading and installing drivers.

 

So I'm wondering about basic methodology.  Is there something I should do to get windows 'out of the way' before i ask HP to find and install?  Are there some config details I should check before I start?

 

And lastly, of course, where do I go from here?

 

A laserjet 3015 on a win19 lan connected usb to one computer.  viewable and usable by four computers on the lan but viewable (by windows explorer) on this machine but not findable/installable by HP.  ?
