Envy 5540
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

Envy 5540 suddenly stopped scanning to my Dell Latitude laptop running Windows 7. Reloaded software from disc . Failed to find Envy  but still able to communicate with it to print. I've run print and scan doctor numerous times .Gets stuck on " Drivers" Updated Drivers - still won't recognise printer even though both are on the network.

Must have gone through the instructions 20 times but no luck . It works fine on another machine with Windows 8.1.

@JohnBC

Thank you for posting on HP Support Community.

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, I have a few troubleshooting steps we could try to fix the issue:

Root level uninstall and reinstall printer drivers

  • Go to Control panel – Programs and feature – Select all the HP Envy printer entries and uninstall them.
  • Now go to Control panel – Devices and printer – Select all the printer entries and remove the device.
  • Then press the "windows key" + "r" to get the "Run" window open - Type "printui.exe /s" and press enter.
  • Under print server properties, go to drivers - remove any entry there as well.
  • Again, go to run window, type – “c:/programdata” – Go to Hewlett Packard folder, remove any printer related folders & files.

To reinstall,click here.

And install Full Feature Software and Drivers: https://support.hp.com/in-en/drivers/selfservice/swdetails/hp-envy-5540-all-in-one-printer-series/54...

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.
